Terms of Service

EFFECTIVE: MAY 25, 2026

Welcome to What Year Music, a music trivia game operated by What Year Games ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing or using our website at https://whatyeargames.com (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. The Service

What Year Music is a web-based music trivia game in which players attempt to guess the release year of songs within a time limit. Songs are presented by title and artist; no copyrighted audio recordings are streamed or distributed by the Service. The Service includes free gameplay and an optional paid PRO subscription that unlocks additional features.

2. Eligibility & Accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. The Service does not require account creation; gameplay is tied to your device. Player names you submit to leaderboards must follow our community standards (no profanity, hate speech, harassment, or impersonation). We reserve the right to remove names that violate these standards.

3. PRO Subscription & Billing

PRO subscriptions are billed through Stripe, our payment processor. Available plans, prices, and what each includes are listed on our Pricing page. By purchasing a subscription, you authorize What Year Games and Stripe to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.

  • Monthly plan ($2.99/month): automatically renews every month until canceled.
  • Yearly plan ($19.99/year): automatically renews every year until canceled.
  • Lifetime plan ($39.99 one-time): single payment grants lifetime access; no recurring charge.

You can cancel a recurring subscription at any time and your PRO access will continue through the end of the paid billing period. Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for unlawful purposes
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' data
  • Cheat, exploit bugs, or use automated tools to manipulate leaderboards
  • Reverse-engineer, copy, or redistribute the Service or its content
  • Submit offensive, harassing, or infringing content

5. Intellectual Property

All Service content (game design, UI, code, artwork, mascot) is owned by What Year Games and protected by U.S. and international copyright laws. Song titles, artist names, and release years are factual data used for the purpose of the trivia game; we do not claim ownership of any third-party musical works or trademarks.

6. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, What Year Games shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

7. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time for violation of these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time. Sections 5, 6, 8, and 9 survive termination.

8. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in the United States.

9. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the Service. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
